From peaks to trails: Why VALLON Heron Mountain are every hikers must-have sunglasses
When the light is low at this time of year, it’s easy to forget that you need some sun protection over your eyes. We recently became aware of the brand VALLON, and were keen to try out their gear for hiking and fishing. So, last weekend we took our new Heron Mountain on a little alpine adventure. Sadly there was no snow around, but there was some sunshine out which made for a good field test for these sunglasses.
First impressions were that we loved the dexterous feel of these shades and the plastic-free packaging they arrived in. The temples are fully malleable, giving a snug fit behind your ear. They’re compact, and easy to pack away in a trusty flannel pocket.
Built with brown-tinted Cat. 3 lenses with a 12% VLT, they were the perfect protection for a forest stroll where the sun was peeking through the winter foliage. The side shields take a little time to get used to - a little like when you put on your ski goggles and helmet for the first time in winter. But soon you forget that they’re there and interestingly having the side shields make your vision even more acute. The colors of the forest were vibrantly displayed and natural contrasts were accentuated. For someone who is a fan of forest bathing, these are ideal for putting you in a calmer state of mind.
The lenses are super clear, and easily wipeable for any grease or flecks of mud. Glacier glasses are designed for high-alpine mountaineering where weight matters, and we loved the superlight frame structure - but these sunglasses still felt robust and durable for our weekly adventures.
In summary, we think the Heron Mountain are a great pair of sunglasses for all your seasonal wanderings. We can’t wait to go peak bagging with them in the summer months, and really put those lenses to the test.
